Hi everyone,
the course on how to develope critical thinking in a science classroom was really very informative.the ideas and the strategies which were explained are very easy to apply in the classroom though it might take a little longer than the usual lecture based classroom.
the Socratic seminar and the service Learning both are quite effective and are a great success as far as construction of knowledge is concerned.
It gives a place to the views and ideas of the students to be put forward and discussed upon before arriving to the final conclusions.
It surely provides a scope for critical analysis of the text or the situation that the students are provided with.

This is awesome. I was recently given a small fourth form literature class and have been tirelessly working to move them from regurgitating knowledge of the text to deep critical analysis. It is difficult for them! I constantly refer them to their own worlds/ experiences to so they can compare and critically analyze the text. It is a work in progress and I am constantly looking for strategies that take them out of their comfort zone to the world beyond!

Hi everyone, just joining for the first time this group.  I am very thankful for the reminder of using Bloom's Taxonomy as we delve into Critical Thinking Skills. I spoke with the teachers in our staff meeting yesterday and the teachers who I will work seem pretty interested.  All who were present concur that we have to teach above the recall level so that students can begin to think on a deeper level about information read in order to impact the real world.  I am enjoying the audio clips.

Hello colleagues,

I had the distinct pleasure and honor of serving as tutor for the ITEN Massive Open Online Course "Critical Thinking in the Science Classroom". The participating teachers had plenty of enthusiasm for getting their students to learn critical thinking skills and shared plenty of good ideas in addition to those suggested in the course. If we have any members of this group who participated in the course, please share one idea that you gained from the course that you are using or plan to use in your classroom. Thanks! Remember . . . Think for yourself, and be a critical thinker!

Critical Thinking Skills

Critical thinking involves formulating new ideas and building on previous knowledge.  To develop critical thinking skills individuals must be encourage to investigate, question, demonstrate understanding and make judgements.  "Do as I say and not as I do" does not promote critical thinking.  It goes back to the sage on the stage.

I am placing this question to members of this forum:

Do as I say not as I do. How can critical thinkers apply this axiom to their method of thinking?

Yes, Jacinta, ITEN always makes a recording of the Webinars available after the event. Check on the website, Twitter feed, or Facebook page a day or two after the event and you should find a link.

I am excited about the classroom activities that can be used at any level. I know my student will benefit because teaching critical thinking is such an important skills that our students need, not just to pass an exam but to be successful in life. I do hope a recording will be available.
