Teaching the Way We Aspire to Teach – Now and in the Future is a collaborative research project between the Canadian Education Association (CEA) and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF). The project grew out of a shared interest in exploring with teachers their experiences and visions of teaching the way in which they aspire – that is, teaching in a way that resonates with their beliefs about teaching and learning.

It wanted to find out:

• Do teachers experience a difference between teaching the way in which they aspire and the way they are required to teach? If so, why?

• What do teachers see as the elements or conditions that contribute to them being able to teach the way they aspire to teach?

• What are the implications for creating learning environments where those conditions are present on a consistent and systemic basis?
