Dr. George has more than 45 years’ experience in educational change management accumulated in 34 countries on four continents. A Canadian by birth, she is a Jamaican who has spent 26 of the past 35 years living and working in Jamaica, and has undertaken assignments in 14 countries across the Caribbean. Her specialities include project management, quality assurance and accreditation, curriculum development, higher education policy development, distance education, monitoring and evaluation of internationally-funded projects, and initiatives for a variety of funders including USAID, DFATD/CIDA, IDB, the World Bank and UNESCO. One of her recent achievements was the systems development for the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission.
Dr. George has successfully managed projects for IDB, USAID, DFATD/CIDA, World Bank and the AfDB over a 20 year period.
Her current areas of focus are: teacher education reform, TVET policy and planning, standards-based 1-9 curriculum reform, higher education quality assurance and evaluation, policy and planning, strategic planning and management for development, competency based curriculum development, and the monitoring and evaluation of education-related projects. She has organised and facilitated more than 220 workshops to train educators and trainers, plan policies, develop curriculum, strengthen educational systems, and evaluate projects. She is author of more than 200 reports, articles and publications, and is a frequent presenter at international conferences.
Previously, Dr. George spent nine years as Associate Vice President for Academic Management at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Jamaica), where she developed the university’s quality assurance systems, initiated the development of distance education, facilitated the accreditation of the university’s programmes, and spearheaded UTech’s development as the premier technological university in the English-speaking Caribbean. She also served as National Evaluator for the rationalisation of teachers’ colleges in Jamaica. Currently, she is the Commonwealth of Learning's Honorary Caribbean Representative for Distance Education.
A strong advocate of Appreciative Inquiry as a planning methodology, and Outcome Mapping for project planning and evaluation, she participated in the development of the education component of Jamaica’s National Development Plan, Vision 2030, and facilitated the development of Jamaica’s Strategic Planning Framework for Tertiary Education 2006-10.
