Short Bio (optional): Karin is the Descubriendo la Lectura Regional Coordinator and Reading Recovery teacher leader at the Illinois Reading Recovery and Descubriendo la Lectura Literacy Center at National Louis University in IL.
She has over twenty years of experience learning with and teaching academically, linguistically and culturally diverse students and their teachers. Prior to her current assignment teaching graduate courses in dual language emergent literacy, assessment, applied theory and clinical practice she worked as a curriculum developer and coordinator, a P-12 dual language instructional coach and staff developer, a bilingual reading specialist, and classroom teacher in a large urban school district.
Karin is a “border crosser,” whose passion is improving instruction in order to provide diverse learners with the learning opportunities essential to closing the language and literacy gaps.
Her research interests are dual language education, emergent comprehensive literacy, language development, reading difficulties, and developing literacy and leadership expertise for specialists to enhance learning for all students.
