What are some of your comprehension strategies?

I particularly like the KWL strategy although it takes time when you’re prepping kids to read a comprehension and answer questions in a given time period.

Otherwise I let them identify a “hint word” in the question and look for that word in the text, read what comes before and after the word and ensure the sentence identified answers what is being asked.

Teaching at the early childhood level, I find that hands on activities, sharing of students own experiences and producing these in art form then having them share the meaning of their work of art is very helpful.
